Description

Here once again is M74, imaged with a C8 edge at F10.

Not an easy one to process. And I'm still not done, this one could use a debayering.

This is a starless version of M74 using the same data that I gather a few weeks ago at Sandilands.  This park is a great dark site quite close to my city, and a favourite of our local group.

Binned 2x2 this time.. and I spend quite a long while learning how to clone stamp in Pixinisight.  My intent was to use this as a galaxy mask, but I liked it as it was and so present it here.

M74  via wiki:

Messier 74 (also known as the Phantom Galaxy) is a large spiral galaxy in the equatorialconstellationPisces. It is about 32 million light-years away from Earth. The galaxy contains two clearly defined spiral arms and is therefore used as an archetypal example of a grand design spiral galaxy.  The galaxy's low surface brightness makes it the most difficult Messier object for amateur astronomers to observe.   Its relatively large angular (that is, apparent) size and the galaxy's face-on orientation make it an ideal object for professional astronomers who want to study spiral arm structure and spiral density waves.

+++++++++++

The net effect of starless reworking is kind of eery; the full version is a bit more clear than my previous try and I hope you like this version of M74.

Title: A new starless version of M74 in the pantheon

Description: This starless version is from a mask that I made in processing the starfield final. I bumped up the colour a bit and also applied a very conservative denoise process. Hope you like it!
